Preps Basketball Power Rankings: No. 19 Evanston

Share

School: Evanston

2018-19 record: 32-5 (9-1 Central Suburban South)

Postseason results: Lost to Belleville West in Class 4A state title game.

Players to watch: Juniors Blake Peters and Jaylin Gibson are both Division I prospects with varsity experience in big games. Peters is a knockdown shooter with expanding guard skills who put up 12.7 points per game as a sophomore last season. Gibson is likely the 'Kits best college prospect as the 6-foot-3 guard is coming off of a big summer. Sophomore Rashawn Bost showed signs of being a solid contributor by playing with poise during the summer.

Why they're in the power rankings: Although the Wildcats are losing the outstanding senior trio of Lance Jones, Jaheim Holden and Ryan Bost, the program still has multiple Division I prospects, one of the area's best coaches and a program stocked with talented younger role players. Size is going to be a major concern for the Wildkits. But the guard play is strong and should carry Evanston to plenty of wins.

Did you know? Evanston has consistently challenged for postseason hardware this decade. The Wildkits are coming off back-to-back trips to Peoria, have won six straight regional titles and claimed three straight sectional titles.
