Green and White was the color of all four hats sitting on the bench today (Michigan State, Notre Dame, Oregon and Baylor) and a subtle hint as to where Fremd three-star ranked safety Kenney Lyke (6-foot-2, 185 pounds) would eventually announce his college choice. Lyke indeed gave the Michigan State Spartans his verbal commitment this afternoon at a press conference held at his high school.

"The visit I made to Michigan State really sold me on them," Lyke said minutes after announcing his decision. "They have a lot to offer on and off the field. They play some serious defense and I just feel like I'll be a good fit with the team and the school. I want to win a national championship and we can do that at Michigan State.

"Michigan State also has put a lot of guys into the NFL. I know that if I work hard I'll be in a great spot playing for the Spartans. The coaches at Michigan State can get me to my goal (playing someday in the NFL)."

Lyke, whose recruiting stock took off this past winter, decided on Michigan State from over nearly 20 scholarship offers.

"I wanted to just make my decision now and not worry about it once the season gets here," according to Lyke. "I knew where I wanted to go so why wait? I can just focus on my team and getting ready this summer for my senior season."

Lyke is now the 13th known verbal commitment to Michigan State in the Class of 2016. Lyke joins Hinsdale Central junior three-star ranked offensive center Matt Allen as the second pledge from Illinois in the Spartans' recruiting class.
