White Sox no longer have to make decision on Josh Osich, who goes to Red Sox on waiver claim

So much for never breaking the chain.

Josh Osich is no longer a member of the White Sox bullpen after being claimed on waivers by the Boston Red Sox on Thursday, meaning the best entrance music on the team — Fleetwood Mac's "The Chain" — will now head from the South Side to Fenway Park.

Osich was one of a group of arbitration-eligible White Sox the team was going to have to make decisions on in the near future. While Alex Colome, James McCann, Leury Garcia, Carlos Rodon and Evan Marshall seem like no-brainers to be tendered contracts and return to the team next season, Osich was one of the question marks, along with Yolmer Sanchez, whose projected raise might price the defensive whiz of an infielder off the White Sox roster.

Osich, projected to receive $1 million through the arbitration process, was called upon often by Rick Renteria during the 2019 season, making 57 appearances, which ranked in the top 50 in the American League. The left-hander finished the campaign with a 4.66 ERA that doesn't exactly blow anyone away, but he did fine work down the stretch, with a 3.00 ERA in August and a 2.92 ERA in September.

He was an interesting potential inclusion in the 2020 bullpen mix, but Thursday's move does away with that possibility, meaning the White Sox could be on the hunt for some more left-handed relief help this winter.
