White Sox send Reynaldo López to injured list, call up two from Schaumburg

Not even a full turn through the rotation, one of the White Sox starting pitchers has already been sidelined with an injury.

The team placed Reynaldo López on the 10-day injured list Monday ahead of the start of an eight-game road trip through Cleveland, Kansas City and Milwaukee.

López was removed from Sunday's game against the Minnesota Twins with shoulder soreness. He allowed four runs on a grand slam, only recording two outs, before departing. After the game, he revealed he was bothered by the injury during the entirety of his brief outing.

Additionally, the White Sox designated infielder Cheslor Cuthbert for assignment Monday, calling up relief pitcher Ian Hamilton and infielder Ryan Goins from the player pool training in Schaumburg.

No roster move was announced involving left fielder Eloy Jiménez, who was also removed from Sunday's game. Jiménez crashed into the outfield wall tracking the aforementioned grand slam in the first inning. He remained in the game but exited an inning later with light-headedness. Jiménez was not in the starting lineup for Monday night's game in Cleveland.

By choosing Hamilton in place of another starting pitcher — such as highly regarded prospect Dane Dunning, for example — the White Sox could be opting to fill the vacant spot in their rotation with someone who is already part of the big league club. Gio González, who was signed as a free agent during the offseason and was expected to be part of the starting staff had the season started in March under normal circumstances, relieved López on Sunday. Ross Detwiler also has starting experience and pitched in relief in Sunday's game. Jimmy Lambert, a starter in the minor leagues, could also be an option.

The White Sox do have a scheduled off day Thursday before they travel to Kansas City for a three-game series, which has the potential to impact how manager Rick Renteria plots out his starting pitchers for the remainder of the road trip.
