Report: Monty Williams in talks to become Sixers' top assistant

The Sixers are working on rounding out the coaching staff.

Head coach Brett Brown is speaking with former Sixer Monty Williams about the team’s top assistant coach position, ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported Wednesday evening. There is a vacancy on the Sixers’ staff since the Hawks hired Lloyd Pierce as head coach earlier this month.

Brown and the Sixers reached an agreement on a three-year contract extension Tuesday (see story).

Williams has five years of head coaching experience. He compiled a 173-221 record with the Pelicans (additionally 2-8 in the playoffs) from the 2010-11 to 2014-15 seasons.

Williams is a member of the Spurs’ front office. Prior to this role, he was the associate head coach of the Thunder during the 2015-16 season. He began his NBA coaching career as an assistant coach with the Trail Blazers for five years.

Last summer, Williams was honored with the inaugural Sager Strong Award following the tragic death of his wife, Ingrid, in a car accident.

Williams, the 24th pick in the 1994 draft, played nine seasons in the NBA for the Knicks, Spurs, Nuggets, Magic and 2002-03 Sixers.

Sixers release hype video officially revealing 2019-20 City Edition uniforms

While a sneak peek last night from Sixers president Chris Heck teased the City Edition uniforms, they were officially revealed Wednesday morning with this epic hype video.

It seemed next to impossible to top last year’s design, as the theme was centered around local icon Rocky Balboa. Yes, Rocky is real and an icon but don’t get me started on that right now.

One season later and the Sixers went the historic route again. This time drawing inspiration from the iconic rich history of Philadelphia's culture.l. You can certainly appreciate the classic design, though they do seem fairly similar to the City Edition uniforms from the 2017-18 season.

Once it was hinted that the uniform had a copper stripe as an ode to the Liberty Bell, I was thinking of a National Treasure-esque hype video … but this one is equally (who am I kidding, this is definitely way better) than what I could’ve imagined. The artist, Alix Philogene, narrated the video to describe the every day people of Philadelphia and the grind this city has in a tribute called "What is Philly.

A sneak peek at the Sixers' 2019-20 City Edition jerseys

It appears we got our first peek at the Sixers’ 2019-20 City Edition uniforms.

Though the uniform won’t officially come out until Wednesday morning, team president Chris Heck gave us a sneak peek Tuesday during the last night of the 76ers Crossover: Art Exhibition.

The design is similar to the 2017-18 version, but with “Philadelphia” written and the copper stripe down the side. The copper stripe appears to be an ode to the Liberty Bell. Before Heck entered the exhibit, he said the jerseys would “tell a story.”

Apparently, that story is America’s. We’ll likely get more info when the uniforms are officially released.
