Eagles' 2023 schedule highlighted by Super Bowl rematches, primetime games

A couple of Super Bowl rematches, a ton of primetime games and a couple West Coast trips in the Eagles’ 2023 schedule.

Here’s a closer look:

• The Eagles will open the season on the road in Foxboro, Massachusetts, as they face the Patriots in Week 1. The Pats will honor the recently-retired Tom Brady at that game.

• The Eagles will be on the road to face the Chiefs in a Super Bowl LVII rematch in Week 11 on Monday Night Football. The Eagles lost 38-35 to the Chiefs in Super Bowl LVII in Arizona. Both the Chiefs and Eagles are among the favorites to get back to the Super Bowl this season.

• After months of whining, the 49ers will have to wait a while longer for that rematch of the NFC Championship Game. The Eagles will host the 49ers in a Sunday afternoon contest at the Linc on Dec. 3 in Week 13. Hopefully the 49ers will have a healthy quarterback by then. In the NFCCG in January, the Eagles knocked knocked out both of the 49ers’ QBs and crushed them 31-7, earning a trip to Super Bowl LVII.

• After playing on Christmas Eve in 2022, the Eagles will host the Giants at 4:30 p.m. on Christmas Day this year. The last time the Eagles played on Christmas Day was during the 2017 season.

• The Eagles have five primetime games again in 2023. They have consistently been one of the teams with the most primetime games in recent NFL history. Here’s a look at the top 5 since 2000:

Cowboys: 105
Eagles: 99
Packers: 99
Steelers: 95
Patriots: 94

The Eagles have just three 1 p.m. kickoffs this year.

• The Eagles have their Thursday Night Football game early in the season in Week 2 and then have a mini bye week, playing on Monday Night Football in Week 3.

• Based on 2022 win totals, the Eagles have the toughest schedule in the NFL in 2023. Their opponents in 2023 had a combined record of 161-123-4 last season. Here’s a look at the top 5:

1. Eagles — .566
2. Dolphins — .554
t-3. Patriots — .549
t-3. Cowboys — .549
t-3. Giants — .549

Of course, last year’s win percentages isn’t the best way to gauge strength of schedule. Basing it on Vegas forecasted win totals, the Eagles have the 17th toughest schedule, per Sharp Football Analysis.

• The Eagles are in the middle of the pack when it comes to travel mileage this season.

• But there’s an interesting two-game span in December with back-to-back games in Dallas and then Seattle. The Eagles have a chance to get off to a good start in 2023 but the schedule gets much tougher starting with Week 9. And four of the Eagles' first six games are on the road.
