Eagles inactives: Johnson surprisingly out vs. Chiefs

Share

The Eagles are down to one original starting offensive lineman.

The big surprise of Sunday morning is that Eagles right tackle Lane Johnson is inactive for the game against the Chiefs. Johnson is inactive because of a personal matter, the Eagles said.

That means that Jason Kelce is the last original starter left on the offensive line.

Isaac Seumalo and Brandon Brooks on on IR and Jordan Mailata is out this week with an MCL sprain. And now Johnson is out too.

That means the offensive line on Sunday will likely look like this (from left to right): Andre Dillard, Landon Dickerson, Jason Kelce, Nate Herbig, Jack Driscoll. The Eagles also have Brett Toth, Sua Opeta and Jack Anderson as their backups.

Driscoll came off IR on Saturday and spent all week practicing at guard. But in early warmups, the Eagles worked with Herbig at right guard and Driscoll to his right.

Here’s the full list of Eagles inactives:

OT Jordan Mailata

OT Lane Johnson

QB Gardner Minshew

DT Marlon Tuipulotu

CB Mack McCain

Rodney McLeod is officially active and will play his first game of 2021 on Sunday against the Chiefs.

McLeod, 31, missed the first three games of the season as he comes back from an ACL tear that ended his 2020 season early. His initial goal was to be ready for the opener, but it took a few more weeks than that.

Driscoll and cornerback Josiah Scott, who were both activated off IR on Saturday, are active for this game. Driscoll had been preparing to start at right guard.

With Mailata out, former first-round pick Andre Dillard will make his second consecutive start. Dillard played very well on Monday night against the Cowboys.

Davion Taylor (calf), who missed last week’s game, is active and will play on Sunday. We’ll see how big his role is. Taylor returned from the calf injury a couple weeks ago but played just a handful of snaps before the injury took him out of the game again. This calf injury dates back to training camp.

Mailata was the only player listed as out on Friday and the Eagles had no players listed as questionable. But the following players were on the injury report, just to keep in mind during this game: Landon Dickerson (hip), Marcus Epps (shoulder), Jason Kelce (foot).
