Uphill climb

We all thought this game was going to give the Eagles a chance to climb into a three-way tie atop the division, but then the Cowboys shocked everyone and beat the Saints on Thursday night. This makes things a little trickier. The Cowboys have a 7-5 record, but if the Eagles win their next two games, they can pull even with them at 7-6. From there, the Cowboys have a much easier remaining schedule, but crazier things have happened.

Snapping the slump

The Eagles got a win last week, but they didn’t really get that offense going yet. That’s been the theme this whole season. The Eagles have averaged just 20.9 points per game this season, which isn’t going to get it done. The worst part about this slump is that the Eagles have scored just 21 points in first quarters this season and have been shut out in nine of 11 games in the first quarter. It won’t be any easier against Washington, which has shut out its opponents in six of 11 games in the first quarter.

Overall, Washington has allowed just 20.8 points per game this season, the seventh-best defense in the NFL.

Banged up on both sides

Both teams have plenty of injuries coming into this game and have already lost key pieces for the season. Washington has already lost Alex Smith, Paul Richardson and both of its starting offensive guards for the year. We already know about the Eagles’ injuries. They have really decimated the secondary.
