One of the best receivers in the nation has declared for the NFL draft and he's Philadelphia born and bred.
Notre Dame's Will Fuller, a native of the city's Frankford neighborhood and a Roman Catholic High School grad, announced Sunday he's forgoing his senior season and entering this year's draft.
Fuller stated earlier this year he would return to Notre Dame for his senior season, but changed his mind in the time since.
He announced the decision on Twitter, saying in part, "After taking all of this into lengthy consideration, I believe it is in my best interest to forgo my senior season and enter the 2016 draft."
The 6-foot, 184-pound junior torched opposing defenses this season to the tune of 62 catches for 1,258 receiving yards (tied for 16th in the nation) and 14 touchdown catches (tied for fifth in the nation). Eight of his 14 touchdown catches this season were over 45 yards.
Local fans may recall he caught the winning touchdown late in the fourth quarter of the Fighting Irish's 24-20 victory over then-No. 21 Temple on Halloween night at Lincoln Financial Field.
In his last collegiate game, a 44-28 loss to Ohio State in Friday's Fiesta Bowl, Fuller caught six passes for 113 yards, including an 81-yard touchdown.
For his efforts this season, Fuller was named a second-team All-American by both the AP and USA Today.
Fuller became a household name during his 2014 sophomore year when he caught 76 balls for 1,094 yards and 15 touchdowns, all of which were school records for a sophomore. Those 15 touchdown catches tied Rhema McKnight (2006) and Jeff Samardzija (2005) for the single-season school record.
Fuller finishes his Notre Dame career with 144 catches for 2,512 yards and 30 touchdowns.
The 2016 NFL draft takes place April 28-30 in Chicago.
