To the surprise of no one with a pulse, J.T. Realmuto is a 2022 National League Gold Glove Award finalist behind the plate.

Realmuto is one of three finalists along with Travis d'Arnaud of the Braves and Tomas Nido of the Mets.

Gold Glove winners are announced on Tuesday, November 1 on ESPN prior to Game 4 of the World Series.

He has a strong case to win the award for the second time, previously winning in 2019, his first season with the Phillies.

Realmuto threw out 30 of 68 would-be base stealers, leading the majors in both total runners thrown out and success rate (44.1 percent). The league average was 24 percent.

He graded out as the highest-rated defensive catcher at both Fangraphs and Baseball-Reference, and his 11 Defensive Runs Saved ranked second in the majors to AL finalist Cal Raleigh of the the Mariners.

Realmuto's workload should also play into his favor. He caught 17 more games and 127 more innings than anyone in the majors.

Realmuto's award in 2019 is the only Gold Glove a Phillie has received since Jimmy Rollins won one in 2012.
