Ben Simmons has been sick on the court recently. Now, he’s just sick … literally.

The Sixers’ star rookie has gastroenteritis and didn’t participate in today’s shootaround in Atlanta.

Simmons questionable for tonight’s game, but Brett Brown on the Mike Missanelli Show on 97.5 said he expects Simmons to play.

"I expect him to play. That's my belief, Mike," Brown said. "He and I shared texts today. It seems like he's feeling better. There's a competitive side to Ben that we've all seen grow and we understand the importance of the next two games. I don't think anything will change prior to the game."

If Simmons can't play, Brown said Markelle Fultz would probably start at point guard, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer

Simmons, 21, is fresh off of his first Eastern Conference Player of the Week Award after he averaged 18.5 points, 10 rebounds and 8.8 assists per game last week as he led the Sixers to a 4-0 record.

During the Sixers’ 14-game win streak, dating back to March 15, Simmons has been masterful. He’s averaged a triple-double during the streak.

After the Sixers play the Hawks in Atlanta tonight, they have just one more game left in the regular season before their playoff run begins. They’ll host the Bucks tomorrow night at the Wells Fargo Center.
