Best of NHL: Wild beat Red Wings as Detroit's Nyquist faces long suspension

ST. PAUL, Minn. -- Zach Parise and the Minnesota Wild have beaten teams a lot of ways this season. On Sunday, the Detroit Red Wings gave one of the league's best power plays too many chances.

Parise scored twice and Devan Dubnyk made 30 saves to help the Western Conference-leading Wild beat the Red Wings 6-3.

The Wild scored three power-play goals in four chances, including two in the first period as they jumped to a 2-0 lead. Minnesota's power play is tops in the NHL at home, converting 30.1 percent of its opportunities at Xcel Energy Center.

"We were in the box a little bit too much today," Red Wings captain Henrik Zetterberg said. "I thought they made some fine darn plays on the power play and it's hard to be down like that."

Mikael Granlund and Nino Niederreiter scored with the man advantage in the first period. Parise then capped the scoring with a power-play goal in the third. The three power-play goals, he noted, led to a deceiving final score.

"It was a tough game," Parise said. "They do a good job in the D-zone. They're in your face a lot and they make it pretty tough. But we got the power-play goals and that was the difference."

Charlie Coyle added a goal and an assist for the Wild, who have points in five straight games. They lead second-place Chicago by five points and have played two fewer games than the Blackhawks.

Anthony Mantha had a goal and an assist for Detroit, Zetterberg and Andreas Athanasiou also scored, and Jared Coreau made 23 saves. The Red Wings have lost four straight and have the worst record in the Eastern Conference.

"It's hard to win when you give up two on the (penalty kill) in the first like that," Detroit coach Jeff Blashill said. "I thought 5-on-5 we did tons of good stuff."

Niederreiter's goal came with Gustav Nyquist in the penalty box for high-sticking defenseman Jared Spurgeon in the face. Spurgeon had knocked Nyquist to the ice from behind near the side boards, and Nyquist came up swinging, using the blade of his stick to spear Spurgeon just below his left eye (see full recap).

Predators rally from 3-goal deficit to beat Stars
NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- Filip Forsberg scored a short-handed goal 6:02 into the third period and the Nashville Predators rallied from a three-goal deficit to beat the Dallas Stars 5-3 on Sunday night.

Roman Josi scored twice, Calle Jarnkrok got the tying goal 4:40 into the third and Mike Fisher added an empty-netter with 1:38 left. James Neal and P.K. Subban each had two assists, and Nashville snapped a two-game skid.

The Predators can breathe a little easier during their upcoming five-day break after avoiding a second loss in two days on home ice. Embarrassed in a 7-4 defeat to Florida on Saturday, they came out feisty from the opening faceoff, only to give up the first three goals.

Jamie Benn had a goal and an assist, Patrick Sharp and Devin Shore had a goal apiece and Tyler Seguin had three assists. Dallas has lost five of six (see full recap).

Burns scores twice as Sharks top Devils
NEWARK, N.J. -- Brent Burns, the NHL's leading offensive defenseman, scored two goals as the San Jose Sharks snapped a season high four-game losing streak with a 4-1 win over the New Jersey Devils on Sunday.

Joe Thornton had a goal and an assist for the Sharks and Kevin Labanc added two assists. Tomas Hertl had an empty-net tally late in the third period.

Martin Jones made 21 saves as San Jose bounced back from a 2-1 overtime loss to Philadelphia on Saturday.

PA Parenteau scored for the Devils and Corey Schneider made 34 stops as New Jersey lost for the eighth time in the last nine home games.

Burns wiped out the Devils' lead with a pair of second-period tallies. He has 24 goals and 59 points to pace all blueliners (see full recap).
