Zac Rinaldo out indefinitely with high-ankle sprain

Flyers forward Zac Rinaldo is out indefinitely with a high-ankle sprain on his left leg, general manager Paul Holmgren announced Thursday.

Rinaldo joins a lengthy list of Flyers out for the foreseeable future that includes: Danny Briere (concussion), Braydon Coburn (separated left shoulder), Max Talbot (broken left leg), Jody Shelley (left hip surgery) and Andrej Meszaros (left shoulder).

The 22-year-old played 5:06 in Wednesday's 5-3 victory over the Montreal Canadiens but was injured sometime during the second period and did not return to the Flyers' bench for the third.

He's not a goal-scorer (three goals and two assists in 32 games), but Rinaldo has been one of the better Flyers throughout this rough, lockout-shortened season. He's been a consistently physical presence, never afraid to throw a hit or start a fight despite his rather small stature (5-11, 169). He also leads the team in penalty minutes, with 85.

Rinaldo's injury is yet another unfortunate loss for the Flyers, who will likely dress Jay Rosehill, whom they acquired in a trade with the Anaheim Ducks earlier this week, in his place.

Rosehill, known as an enforcer, hasn't played a game at the NHL level this season. Most recently, he played with the Toronto Maple Leafs, whom the Flyers face tonight, in 2011-12.
