49ers sign receivers White, Cracraft to one-year contracts

The 49ers on Thursday announced the signings of wide receivers Kevin White, a former first-round draft pick of the Chicago Bears, and River Cracraft to one-year contracts. The 49ers made room on their 80-man roster for Cracraft and White by releasing veteran wide receiver Jaron Brown and waived/injured defensive end Jonathan Kongbo.

White comes to the 49ers after being selected No. 7 overall out of West Virginia in the 2015 NFL Draft. Dealing with a multitude of injuries, White managed to play just 14 games in Chicago before the organization declined his fifth-year option, leaving him as a free agent after last season. White was cut by the Arizona Cardinals during training camp, and ended up not playing at all in 2019. White previously had a tryout with the New York Jets last week, but it appears he's finally found a new team with the 49ers.

Cracraft comes to the 49ers after stints with the Denver Broncos and Philadelphia Eagles. The Washington State product had one 44-yard catch with the Broncos in 2018, also returning 12 punts and three kicks during his time in Denver.

The 49ers have been hampered by injuries at receiver in training camp, as Jalen Hurd went down with a torn ACL and 2020 first-round pick Brandon Aiyuk is week-to-week with a hamstring strain. Prior to camp, Deebo Samuel already was dealing with a Jones fracture suffered during an offseason workout and Richie James remains out with a wrist injury.

San Francisco already has signed receivers Tavon Austin and J.J. Nelson since training camp began, so White and Cracraft come in with plenty of competition at the position.
