The Red Sox have been thin at first base throughout the month June thanks to Steve Pearce and Mitch Moreland hitting the injured list with nagging injuries.
Michael Chavis has assumed most of the responsibilities at first while they recover, but getting each of their power strokes back in the lineup should help the Red Sox build on the momentum of a five-game winning streak.
Moreland returned from the injured list for just one game before suffering from right quad tightness. Cora was not optimistic at the time Moreland had to be sent back to the IL, and he said Monday that Moreland is progressing but not participating in baseball activities.
Moreland was hitting .225 with 13 home runs and 34 RBI when he went down, while Pearce was really struggling, hitting .180/.245/.258. Maybe once they get back fully healthy they can both start to drive in some runs like they did last season.
