Here’s a look at this week’s Biggest Movers, as Dustin Johnson climbs after a win and an unheralded rookie gets a major boost:
- Andrew Landry faded from contention Sunday at the U.S. Open, but a T-15 finish was still an impressive major debut. It also helped him jump more than 200 spots in the Official World Golf Ranking, from No. 624 to No. No. 379.
- Three players all made OWGR climbs after finishing T-2 at Oakmont. Shane Lowry jumped 16 spots to No. 25, Jim Furyk rose 13 spots to No. 19 and Scott Piercy moved up 24 spots to No. 43.
- The winner, though, was Johnson, who climbs three spots to a career-best No. 3 in the world after earning his first major championship win.
- That move bumped Rory McIlroy to No. 4 after the Ulsterman missed the cut in Pittsburgh. It marks the first time he’s been outside the OWGR top three since winning the 2014 Open Championship.
- Gregory Bourdy’s T-18 finish moved him up 15 spots to No. 111 in the world, racing past No. 127 Alexander Levy for the second and final spot on the projected French Olympic team.
- After a T-13 finish that followed a pair of runner-ups, Brooks Koepka is all the way up to No. 3 in the latest U.S. Ryder Cup standings, trailing only Spieth and Johnson.
- Zach Johnson’s T-8 showing moved him onto the right side of the Ryder Cup bubble, from No. 9 to No. 5, dropping Rickie Fowler into the eighth and final automatic qualifying spot. Patrick Reed is now the odd man out at No. 9.
- After their runner-up performances, both Furyk (No. 17) and Piercy (No. 18) moved from obscurity to the fringe of Ryder Cup contention.
- With his T-2 finish, Lowry moved to 10th on both the European Points and World Points lists - the latter of which put him one spot behind Andy Sullivan for the final automatic qualifying spot for Hazeltine.
