Lewis doubles 18, stumbles with third-round 76

RIO DE JANEIRO – Stacy Lewis was mad on Thursday after her pre-round range session where she felt she wasn’t in tune with her swing. She shot 63 and was only a shot behind leader Inbee Park. Anger turned to happiness.

After a third-round 76 where, among other things, she battled a balky putter, Lewis was downright distraught.

Playing in the day’s final group with Park and Charley Hull, Lewis bogeyed three of her first seven holes to drop back off the first page of the leaderboard.

The back nine, which had played fairly easy most of the week, became a behemoth this time playing directly into a 30 mph wind. Lewis made two birdies and two bogeys after 15 holes but closed with a nasty double bogey to shoot herself out of the tournament.

She is seven shots behind Park and five shots behind the third place, bronze-medal position.
