CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Rory McIlroy still has two more stops on his current road trip – next week’s BMW PGA Championship and the Irish Open on the European Tour – but following his victory on Sunday at the Wells Fargo Championship he said he was looking forward to his next PGA Tour start which will be the U.S. Open.
The championship heads to the Pacific Northwest and Chambers Bay for the first time next month, a virtually unknown layout to most Tour players and USGA executive director Mike Davis recently said it will be a unique test that will require extra homework if a player is going to succeed.

“The idea of coming in and playing two practice rounds and having your caddie just walk it and using your yardage book, that person’s done,” Davis said. “Will not win the U.S. Open.”
On Sunday following his seven-stroke victory at Quail Hollow, McIlroy was asked about Davis’ comments and how he plans to prepare for the U.S. Open?
“What’s Mike Davis’ handicap?” McIlroy asked.
McIlroy plans to head to Tacoma, Wash., the weekend before the U.S. Open to get in some extra practice on the links-style layout.
