DUBLIN, Ohio – Jason Day returns to the PGA Tour this week after nearly a month and a half break to mend an ailing left thumb.
Day, who won the WGC-Match Play Championship and tied for 20th at the Masters in his last start, said the process has been “frustrating” but that his thumb was ready for this week and beyond.
“The thumb is totally fine,” said Day, who lives in the area and is a member at Muirfield Village. “At the start of the injury I thought it would be a two- to three-week break, but it got progressively worse.”

Day said playing the Masters probably set him back three to four weeks and until a week ago he was on a “ball count,” with doctors allowing him to hit 50 balls up to 125 yards when he started playing again two weeks ago.
But the Australian said he’s played an estimated 100 holes the last six days thanks to therapy, three cortisone shots, a cast, three splints and daily icings and anti-inflammatories.
“It was frustrating, it really was,” Day said. “My whole body felt great except for my hand.”
