ORLANDO, Fla. – The numbers have been crunched, the scenarios vetted. If Adam Scott continues his march to victory this week at Bay Hill he will unseat Tiger Woods atop the World Golf Ranking before the Masters in a fortnight.
That is assuming, however, that neither Woods nor Scott play again until the Masters and Henrik Stenson, currently the world’s third-ranked player, doesn’t add another layer of intrigue to the mix.
Stenson, who was tied for 16th when he completed his round on Saturday at the Arnold Palmer Invitational, is scheduled to play the Shell Houston Open the week before heading to Augusta National. If the Swede were to finish well at Bay Hill and in Houston he could unseat both players at No. 1 in the world.
It’s a scenario Stenson has considered.
“This is as good of an opportunity as I’ve ever had,” Stenson said following a third-round 69 left him at 3 under. “We saw it a couple of years back with Luke (Donald) and Rory (McIlroy) and Lee (Westwood). It’s fun to have a couple of guys right there.”
