KAPALUA, Hawaii – Jordan Spieth has made the game look easy. He shot 8-under 65 Saturday at the Hyundai Tournament of Champions and takes a five-shot lead into the final round at Kapalua. Here are some things You Oughta Know as Spieth looks to begin the year with a win:
• The third-round leader has won this tournament 23 of 31 times. Steve Stricker was the last to do it in 2013. The third-round leader had won three of the seven PGA Tour events in the 2015-16 season.
• Ernie Els was 25 under in 2003 and won by eight shots. He shot a tournament-record 31 under par. Spieth is 24 under and leads Brooks Koepka by five.
• Spieth has more eagles (2) than pars (1) on the par 5s this week. & bull; Spieth has been either first or second after all seven career rounds at Kapalua.
• This is Spieth’s ninth career 54-hole lead in his PGA Tour career. He’s converted the last four into victories.
• A win would give Spieth his seventh PGA Tour win at age 22. It would tie Tiger Woods most wins before age 23 in the modern era. (Horton Smith won his 14th even in 1930.)
• Koepka’s 63 was the lowest round of his PGA Tour career and was a shot from tying the course record. He was 18 for 20 in putts inside 20 feet on Saturday and 16 for 16 inside 10 feet.
• Koepka’s 54-hole total of 200 is the second-best of his career. He shot 198 after three rounds at the 2013 Frys.com Open and ultimately tied for third.
• Patrick Reed is in third place and is six shots behind Spieth. He is the only player in the field without a bogey and all 11 career rounds at Kapalua have been under par. His last victory was at this tournament last year.
• The last player to go bogey-free for 72 holes and win was Lee Trevino in 1974 at New Orleans.
