Jason Dufner moved into position Saturday for more than his third victory this season.
With a 7-under-par 63 at the Wyndham Championship, Dufner is poised to overtake Tiger Woods as the FedEx Cup points leader going into next week’s start of the playoffs at The Barclays. Dufner won the Zurich Classic and HP Byron Nelson Championship in the spring.
When Dufner buried a birdie putt at the 18th Saturday to close out the third round at the Wyndham Championship, he put himself just two off Sergio Garcia’s 54-hole lead.
Dufner will move ahead of Woods as the FedEx Cup points leader if he wins the Wyndham Championship or finishes no worse than a two-way tie for second place.
Dufner raised some eyebrows announcing this week that he will skip The Barclays next week, but a move to No. 1 on the FedEx Cup points list will surely enhance and justify his week of rest. Dufner is playing his third consecutive event this week.
