Here is a by-the-numbers look at Inbee Park’s historic victory Sunday at the U.S. Women’s Open:
• It was her ninth career LPGA victory, her fourth career major title, and her second U.S. Open crown.
• Park becomes the second player in LPGA history – and first in the modern era – to win the first three majors in a season. Babe Zaharias was the other player to accomplish the feat, but in 1950 only three majors were contested.
• Park is just the fourth player in LPGA history to win three majors in a season. Zaharias, Mickey Wright (1961) and Pat Bradley (1986) are the others, though only Zaharias won the majors consecutively.
• This is Park’s eighth victory in her last 24 starts. She also has five runners-up over that span.
• The $585,000 first-place check will move Park to 20th on the career money list, with more than $7.37 million. She has already surpassed $2 million in season earnings.
• After this victory, Park will retain the No. 1 ranking for the 12th consecutive week.
• It marks the fifth time in the last six years that a South Korean has won the U.S. Women’s Open.
