It may be a tad early to say golf is enjoying a new era, but new certainly made its mark on professional golf in recent weeks – highlighted by Matteo Manassero’s victory on Sunday in Malaysia two days before his 18th birthday and “old man” Brendan Steele, 28, who won the Texas Open.
Manassero edged 21-year-old Rory McIlroy for his second European Tour title, while Steele becomes the fourth twenty-something in the last six PGA Tour events to win.
In fact, Steele’s victory marks the first time rookies have won back-to-back Tour events, combined with Charl Schwartzel’s Masters victory, since 2002.
