AKRON, Ohio – Slammin’ Sam is hanging onto history by a thread.

With his victory at the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational, Tiger Woods moved one step closer to passing Sam Snead on the all-time PGA Tour victory list.

Woods now has 79 wins, just three behind Snead’s career total.

If that statistic alone isn’t enough to impress, try this: Snead won his 79th at the 1960 DeSoto Open when he was 47 years, 10 months old. Woods’ victory on Sunday came at the age of 37 years, 7 months.

That means Woods can go winless for the next decade and still remain on a record-setting pace.
