CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Tuesday’s mandatory players meeting at Quail Hollow was conspicuously missing the game’s two biggest players, a fact that didn’t go unnoticed by the media or some players.
Neither Tiger Woods, who was in Asheville, N.C., working on a golf course design project on Tuesday, or Phil Mickelson were at the meeting but that, according to Andy Pazder, the Tour’s senior vice president of tournament administration, is not uncommon.
Pazder said “a number of players” missed the meeting and will be required to perform an “educational requirement.”
“They’ll need to sit down one-on-one with Rick George (the Tour’s chief of operations) who will walk them through a slightly streamlined presentation of what was covered,” Pazder wrote in an e-mail to GolfChannel.com.
Pazder also said some of those who missed the meeting were excused in advance, but did not say whether Woods or Mickelson had been given pass.
