International Tennis Hall of Fame Member Andre Agassi sat down with Morning Drive Contributor Annika Sorenstam at the Escape For Good charitable event in Phoenix, Arizona. Tennis has always played a huge role in his life because it has given him much of what he has in his life including his wife Steffi Graf. When it comes to his kids, he does not push them too hard on tennis as his son loves baseball and his daughter loves horseback riding.
He started his foundation years ago with the focus on children in need. His foundation has provided scholarships and helped with Boys and Girls Clubs but he found after some time that his foundation was putting band-aids on wounds and that is when his foundation began focusing on education and building Agassi Prep. He has been able to figure a way to partner with corporate entities in order to build the charter school facility to give them more opportunities.
You see a lot of headlines about athletes who are involved in negative things off the field and he wanted to create a program like Escape For Good in order to bring athletes together who are doing great work in many different areas. Many athletes who want to give back may not have the time or the ability to put together a foundation and he hopes that Athletes For Hope will be able to help those athletes create more charitable foundations which will in turn help more and more people.
