PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. – Wow.
Tiger Woods’ big fade around the tree at the 18th hole at Pebble Beach Saturday at the U.S. Open may be looked back upon as the shot we remember in his coming back to form.
From 260 yards, he carved a 3-wood left to right to the middle of the green.
It was struck with the confidence of the Tiger of old.
When the two-putt birdie fell, Woods was all alone in third place, four shots off the lead with a 66 to sign for.
‘I’m right there,’ Woods told skeptical media a day earlier after Friday’s round moved him seven shots off the lead.
The skepticism was palpable, but he proved Saturday he was right.
