Chilly reception on Day 2

AUGUSTA, Ga. – More than half an inch of rain (.55) fell on Augusta National Thursday after play had been completed, but a quick walk across the property early Friday revealed no signs of the storm. Just the way officials want it.

It was cool early Friday, with temperatures in the low 50s, and players got an even cooler shoulder from those who set pins. Most players agreed Thursday pins were set for low scoring, which resulted in 30 under-par Day 1 totals.

“They are probably one step easier than they normally are. Look at the first hole, it’s right in the center of the green. You don’t see that ever,” said Tiger Woods after his opening 68, his first opening round in the 60s in 16 trips to the Masters.

A glance at Friday’s tee sheet didn’t seem to be as user friendly, starting at the first hole which was cut 5 paces from the left edge.

Woods is scheduled to begin his second round at 10:35 a.m. (ET), although live coverage of the event doesn’t begin until 4 p.m. In a nod to obvious interest officials made Woods’ group, which includes K.J. Choi, who is tied for second place, and Matt Kuchar, the day’s featured group on Masters.org.
