SAN FRANCISCO – Every year the U.S. Golf Association says the golf course is in great shape and it’s ready to provide the toughest test in golf.
This year, they mean it.
USGA executive director Mike Davis spoke Wednesday in the association’s annual news conference on the eve of the U.S. Open and stated clearly that he believes the greens at The Olympic Club are going to allow more putts to be made.
“In terms of putting greens, this week what I will say is they’re literally near perfect,” Davis said. “If you hit it on the right light with the right speed, you’re going to make it this week.
“I think you’re going to see more putts made. I’m not sure I can tell you what that translates into over 72 holes, but you’re going to see more putts made.”
