Anthony Kim will miss the next 9-12 months as he recovers from surgery to repair a ruptured Achilles.
Kim sustained the injury while training in San Diego, rupturing the tendon after trying to change directions while sprinting. He underwent surgery in San Diego quickly thereafter on June 30, IMG spokesman Dave Haggith said Wednesday. He would be unlikely to return sooner than next April.
Kim, a three-time PGA Tour winner, had previously announced in May he would be sidelined until October with tendinitis in his left arm. In 2010, Kim underwent surgery on his left thumb.
Once ranked sixth in the world, Kim is now 197th. He has made just two cuts in 10 starts this season, withdrawing from his last three tournaments.
