Washington remains on top

While the Washington Capitals remain first overall in the latest rankings, Colorado and the New York Islanders moved up one spot each to second and third respectively while the Boston Bruins dropped from second to fourth.

The Flyers, Oilers and Canucks dropped considerably this week while the New York Rangers jumped up to 12th overall.

1. Washington

Record: 24-5-5 (2-1-0)

The Capitals lost to Columbus to start the week but beat Boston and Tampa Bay to end it. This week the Capitals face Columbus, New Jersey and Tampa Bay. John Carlson leads the team in game-winning goals with five.

2. Colorado

Record: 21-8-3 (2-0-1)

The Avalanche have not lost in regulation time in three weeks as they lost in overtime to Calgary and then outscored Philadelphia and New Jersey by identical 3-1 scores. They Avs play Chicago twice this week as well as St. Louis and Carolina. Andre Burakovsky, Mikko Rantanen and Cale Makar each have three game-winning goals.

3. New York Islanders

Record: 22-7-2 (3-0-0)

New York won all three as Tampa Bay, Florida and Buffalo all fell to the Islanders. New York takes on Nashville, Boston and Anaheim this week. Brock Nelson has four game-winners for the Islanders.

4. Boston

Record: 21-7-6 (1-3-0)

The Bruins beat have been slumping of late and did not have a good week, losing to Ottawa, Washington and Tampa Bay and finally getting back on the winning track by knocking off Florida. Boston is home for all three as they play Los Angeles, the New York Islanders and Nashville. David Pastrnak has six game winning goals thus far.

5. St. Louis

Record: 20-8-6 (2-1-0)

The Blues started off the week with a loss to Buffalo but redeemed themselves with wins over Vegas and Chicago. The Blues face Colorado, Edmonton and San Jose this week. David Perron has five game-winners thus far this season.

6. Winnipeg

Record: 20-11-2 (2-1-0)

The Jets split with the Red Wings and defeated Philadelphia this past week. Winnipeg faces Carolina, Chicago and Minnesota in the week before Christmas. Mark Scheifele has five game-winners to lead the Jets.

7. Pittsburgh

Record: 19-10-4 (2-1-0)

The Penguins lost to Montreal to begin the week and then knocked off Columbus and Los Angeles. They are in Western Canada to play Calgary, Edmonton and Vancouver this week. Jake Guentzel has three game winners as the Penguins have at least one game winner from 11 players.

8. Carolina

Record:20-11-2 (2-0-1)

The Hurricanes lost in overtime to Vancouver but defeated Edmonton and Calgary for a successful Western Canada swing. Carolina faces Winnipeg, Colorado and Florida this week. Andrei Svechnikov and Sebastian Aho each have three game winners.

9. Dallas

Record: 19-11-4 (2-0-1)

The Stars defeated New Jersey and Nashville and lost in overtime to Vegas this past week. Dallas plays Edmonton, Tampa Bay, Florida and Calgary this week. Jamie Benn has three game winners.

10. Philadelphia

Record: 17-11-5 (0-3-0)

The Flyers lost all three this week to fall down the power rankings. Colorado, Minnesota and Winnipeg all beat the Flyers away from Philadelphia. This week, the Flyers face Anaheim, Buffalo and Ottawa. Claude Giroux has four game winning goals.
