Ted Bishop joined Matt Adams on “Fairways of Life” on Friday to promote the release of his new book, “Unfriended: The Power Brokers, Political Correctness and Hypocrisy in Golf.”
Bishop, the former PGA of America president who was dismissed from his position following controversial comments, said the book offered him a chance to tell his side of the story with “no filters or no media interpretation.”
Bishop called Ian Poulter a “lil girl” on social media in October 2014 and was ousted the next day, one month before his two-year term as president was set to expire.
Bishop told Adams that, “There was some continuousness with the PGA of America during the composition of the book. I was compelled and had to hire a First Amendment lawyer in Washington, D.C., and I had him review the manuscript and look at my confidentiality agreements and make sure that I had not, in fact, violated any of the fiduciary responsibility I had to the PGA of America.”
Bishop said he let the PGA of America review the book before it was published, as well as Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump, who is mentioned several times.
The first two chapters of the book focus on the controversy. Bishop told Adams that he didn’t consider the writing experience as cathartic, but later said it helped with “closure.”
He admitted that he made a “boneheaded mistake,” but that he hoped the PGA would support him.
“Certainly, that didn’t happen in my case,” he said. “It is what it is. I just gotta deal with it and move on with my life.”
