McIlroy whistling a new tune

NEWPORT, Wales – Rory McIlroy’s tune has changed.

The 21-year-old phenom from Northern Ireland called the Ryder Cup an “exhibition” in the year leading into the event, but he was converted by the experience.

Asked about the Ryder Cup last year, this is how McIlroy was quoted: “The Ryder Cup is a great spectacle but an exhibition at the end of the day and it should be there to be enjoyed. In the big scheme of things, it’s not that important to me.’

After gaining a half point in his match with Stewart Cink Monday, here’s how McIlroy assessed the Ryder Cup: “It’s great. It’s fantastic. I wouldn’t have said this a year ago, but this is the best event in golf, by far.”
