The Honda Classic and PGA National Resort & Spa have reached a new four-year agreement to keep the event at the resort’s Champion Course through 2016, according to the Palm Beach Post.
The Palm Beach Gardens tournament has been held at the Champion Course, which features the three-hole stretch known as the ‘Bear Trap’ since 2007.
Tiger Woods competed this year in the tournament for the first time since 1993, when he was a 17-year-old amateur. Tournament officials said this year’s event attracted 162,000 spectators for the week - an increase of 50,000 over 2011.
In February, American Honda announced a similar four-year agreement to remain title sponsor of the tournament through 2016. The car maker is the longest-running continuous title sponsor on the PGA Tour, having its name on the event since 1982.
