UPDATE: Both general manager Doug Melvin and Hart himself have denied Rosenthal’s report that they’re working on a new contract.
==========
Corey Hart is heading into the final season of a three-year, $26.5 million contract and Ken Rosenthal of FOXSports.com reports that he’s “discussing a new deal” with the Brewers.
Rosenthal writes that Hart is asking for another three-year deal, which seems reasonable from the Brewers’ point of view considering he’s 30 years old and coming off a third straight season with 25-plus homers and an OPS around .850.
Hart is set to make $10 million in 2013, so considering his last contract and his recent production $30 million for three years would seemingly be the starting point.
Hart has played his entire 945-game career in Milwaukee after being drafted by the Brewers in 2000 and shifted from the outfield to first base this year following the departure of Prince Fielder.
