It’s been less than a week since Cameron Maybin returned from a wrist injury that cost him 45 games, but now the Padres center fielder is facing another lengthy injury absence.

Maybin hurt his right knee diving for a ball in the outfield Sunday and the Padres announced that he’s been diagnosed with a torn posterior cruciate ligament, which is expected to sideline him for 6-10 weeks.

That puts a potential return date somewhere around mid-August and means any setback could cost Maybin the remainder of the season. As it stands now he’s played just 14 games and the Padres are back to using Chris Denorfia and Will Venable in center field.

UPDATE: San Diego called up Jaff Decker from Triple-A to help replace Maybin.
