The Athletics announced on Monday that pitcher Daniel Mengden underwent debridement surgery on his right elbow to shave off a small bone spur. There is no timetable yet for his recovery.
Mengden, who turns 27 years old next week, was aiming to work as a long reliever this season. Last season, he made nine starts and four relief appearances, posting a 4.83 ERA with 42 strikeouts and 27 walks over 59 2/3 innings.
Mengden is out of options, which means that his time with the Athletics could be running thin.
