No teams were interested in trading for Grady Sizemore or even claiming his remaining contract off waivers, so the Phillies released the veteran outfielder after designating him for assignment.
Sizemore signed with the Phillies in the middle of last season after being released by the Red Sox and then re-signed for this year at $2 million, but he hit just .250 with three homers and a .657 OPS in 99 total games for Philadelphia.
Once among the best all-around players in baseball, Sizemore’s career was wrecked by injuries and he hasn’t posted an OPS above .750 since 2009. It’s sad that he’s now healthy enough to play regularly but no longer good enough to really help a team much doing so despite being only 32 years old.
