Mets fans haven’t been able to celebrate “Harvey Day” since August 24, 2013, but that’s about to change very soon.
According to Adam Rubin of ESPN New York, Harvey is tentatively scheduled to make his Grapefruit League debut next Friday, March 6 against the Tigers. It will be his first game action since he underwent Tommy John surgery 16 months ago. Harvey still hasn’t faced hitters in Mets camp -- his first test will come tomorrow -- so this is assuming that everything goes off without a hitch.
As of now, the Mets fully expect Harvey to begin the 2015 season in the starting rotation. His workload is expected to be somewhat limited in his first season back from surgery, but Mets manager Terry Collins said last weekend that they’ll likely do it by giving him some five-inning starts as opposed to skipping him in the rotation altogether.
Harvey, 25, owns a 2.39 ERA and 261/57 K/BB ratio in 237 2/3 innings over his first 36 starts in the majors.
