Matt Harvey arrived at Mets camp Monday, almost two weeks before pitchers and catchers are required to report, and on Tuesday he stepped atop a mound for his first official bullpen session of the spring.
“Realizing it was my first one of a healthy spring training, that’s pretty cool,” Harvey told Anthony McCarron of the New York Daily News after the short throwing session. “With that, it was good to get started and everything couldn’t feel better.”
Harvey missed the entire 2014 season due to Tommy John reconstructive elbow surgery and will be on an innings limit of some kind in 2015, but he is still capable of having a tremendous impact.
Harvey registered a 2.27 ERA, 0.93 WHIP, and 191 strikeouts across 178 1/3 frames in 2013.
