Mets prospect Jenrry Mejia is a starter again.
After sitting out a year following Tommy John elbow surgery Mejia returned as a starter, made seven starts before shifting to the bullpen, and is now moving back into the Triple-A rotation, according to Adam Rubin of ESPN New York.
Assistant general manager Paul DePodesta admitted to Rubin last week that the Mets’ decision-makers “have wrestled with” Mejia’s role and “don’t want to keep having him go back and forth.”
Prior to the injury Mejia ranked among Baseball America‘s top 100 prospects in both 2010 and 2011, but his 33/18 K/BB ratio in 56 innings this season suggests the 22-year-old will need some more time in the minors next season before being a big-league option again.
