Miguel Cabrera left the All-Star game after one at-bat with what was described as mild soreness in his right side and the Tigers first baseman said afterward that the injury “is nothing big.”
“I’m going to take care of myself and get ready for Friday,” Cabrera told Jason Beck of MLB.com, referring to the Tigers’ three-game series against the White Sox that kicks off the second half in Detroit.
Cabrera told Beck that he felt soreness on a checked swing, but would have stayed in the game had it, you know, actually counted for anything.
Hopefully he’s right and the injury isn’t reclassified as the dreaded oblique strain, because those tend to linger and the Tigers can hardly afford to lose Cabrera and his third-ranked .980 OPS from the middle of their lineup for any length of time.
