No arbitration for Joel Hanrahan, as Pirates closer agrees to one-year deal

Scratch Joel Hanrahan off the list of potential arbitration hearings, as Jenifer Langosch of MLB.com reports that the closer has agreed to a one-year deal with the Pirates and Keith Law of ESPN.com says the deal is worth $4.1 million.

Hanrahan made $1.4 million last season in his first year of arbitration eligibility and saved 40 games for the Pirates while serving as a full-time closer for the first time, so he’d have been in line for a significant raise.

He’s under team control via arbitration for 2013 as well, at which point Hanrahan will be a free agent at age 32.
