Journeyman infielder Ronny Cedeno, who signed a minor-league deal with Philadelphia and then re-signed after being released during spring training, is now on his way to the majors to join the Phillies’ roster.
Cedeno hit just .286 with one homer and a .694 OPS in 42 games at Triple-A, but he’s been on fire recently and the Phillies simply wanted some veteran bench depth behind middle infield starters Jimmy Rollins and Chase Utley.
He last played in the majors with the Astros and Padres last season, hitting .242 with three homers and a .617 OPS in 89 games, and the 31-year-old Cedeno is a career .246 hitter with a .644 OPS in nine seasons.
