Renovations in store for 100th anniversary of Wrigley

Dave van Dyck of the Chicago Tribune reports that the Cubs are planning a complete renovation of Wrigley Field in conjunction with the 100-year anniversary of the park in 2014. The “Wrigley 20-14" project includes the long-rumored “triangle building,” a large open-air courtyard, the possible addition of a restaurant, widened concourses and expanded restrooms, some of which will be completed for this season. It doesn’t sound like the troughs are going anywhere.

The only parts of the park that will not be reconfigured, according to the report, are the bleachers, which already have been altered by more seats and a restaurant.

One interesting note from the piece is that during a Cubs Convention panel discussion about the business of baseball, team president Crane Kenney took an informal show-of-hands vote on whether to keep flying the “L” flag after a home loss. Most were opposed to changing one of baseball’s quirkiest traditions.
