Rob Refsnyder had a rough weekend

You probably had a better weekend than Yankees infielder Rob Refsnyder. He was hit in the face by a ground ball not once, but twice in spring training action on Friday and Saturday. (Saturday, by the way, was his 26th birthday, as @CADBII pointed out to me on Twitter.) On Sunday, the Yankees optioned him to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

Refsnyder had been playing third base to add some versatility in his quest to earn a spot on the Yankees’ bench. Aside from his first year of professional baseball in 2012, when he played right field, Refsnyder has exclusively played at second base.

The Yankees appear to be content with either Pete Kozma or Ronald Torreyes serving as the utility infielder. Refsnyder, of course, could always be called up during the season if he’s needed.
