After aggravating his season-long shoulder problems in the Arizona Fall League last week Royals prospect Kyle Zimmer underwent what the team is calling “minor” shoulder surgery.
Zimmer was the fifth overall pick in the 2012 draft and ranked as a top-25 prospect according to both Baseball America and MLB.com coming into the season, but then the 23-year-old right-hander was limited to just five innings by arm problems.
Last year, in his first full season as a pro, Zimmer struck out 140 batters in 108 innings between Single-A and Double-A.
