Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports has heard from officials of three different clubs that the Braves are shopping first baseman Freddie Freeman. They’re also reportedly shopping starter Julio Teheran, and outfielders Nick Markakis and Cameron Maybin.
Freeman, 26, is under contract through 2021, with $118.5 million remaining on his eight-year, $135 million contract. He battled injuries this past season but still managed to put up terrific numbers, hitting .276/.370/.471 with 18 home runs and 66 RBI in 481 plate appearances.
The Braves recently traded shortstop Andrelton Simmons to the Angels, and trading Freeman would be one more step into their rebuilding process ahead of their move into a new stadium in Cobb County. The Phillies and Reds were the only teams to finish with a record worse than the Braves’ 67-95 in 2015.
