Tim Collins needs a second Tommy John surgery

Awful news for Royals reliever Tim Collins: he needs a second Tommy John surgery.

He was on the mend from his first Tommy John, performed a little over a year ago, and was slated to return to action early this season. Now it’ll be at least another year, best case scenario.

Prior to blowing out his elbow Collins posted a 3.54 ERA with 220 strikeouts in 211 innings from 2011-2014. He’s still just 26 years old and, despite the last surgery, the Royals had faith in him, choosing to tender him a contract this past offseason rather than let him go. He had agreed to a $1.475 million deal this year to be a middle reliever.

Now, sadly, he’ll embark on another year of rehab.
